How to commission a scale model of your yacht

Commissioning a model of your vessel should be a pleasure, not a project. From the first conversation to the moment it is set in place, the journey is designed to be enjoyable and clear. Here is how a bespoke Marea commission unfolds, and the few things worth having ready before you begin.

It starts with a conversation

Every commission opens with a free conceptualisation call with our creative director. There is no charge and no obligation. We talk through the vessel, what the model is for, where it will live, and the level of detail and budget that suit you. If you have drawings, photographs or a general arrangement plan, they help, but they are not required.

We can build a scale model of any ship, at any size, working from your drawings or from none at all.

What to have ready

  • The vessel name, builder or class, if you know them.
  • Any plans, drawings or photographs you have, in any form.
  • A sense of the size or scale you would like, and where it will be displayed.
  • Your timeline, especially if the model is a gift or marks an occasion.

When no plans exist

If the drawings are lost, or the vessel is historic, this is where Marea is different. Our in-house Ai Model, supported by our relationships with maritime museums and associations, reconstructs the vessel and renders it in three dimensions for your approval. Nothing is built until the recovered design looks right to you.

Design, then sign-off

Once the brief is agreed, your model is rendered in 3D so you can see the design, the proportions and the finish before any material is cut. You approve the look, and every detail is captured in a model maker's brief that you sign off. This is the moment everything is locked, so there are no surprises later.

The build, in stages

Your dedicated project manager carries the build from start to finish, the single point of contact the whole way through. You receive progression reports with photographs and videos at the key milestones, so you are never left wondering. The model is inspected and finished by hand, then signed off against the brief.

Delivered to the door

When the model is complete, it is packed, insured and delivered worldwide, with customs and paperwork handled for you. On request, we install it in place by hand, set its base and any lighting, and leave it exactly as it should be seen.
